Can We (Home Comers) Be A Part Of The Solution ?

I am a homecomer and I've been home for two years and three months now and in the past I feel that I was part of the problems that was in our community, but now I want to be a big part of the solution and try to bring about change in the community. I don't feel that a lot of people in the community/ society want us to be apart of the community or the solution, but please understand that we are just as much apart of the community/society as anyone else. We have a lot to give back to our communities if given the chance. When it comes to the homecomers they can teach, in many ways, how to help change/ help theses young people out who are in the streets and we (Home Comers) can learn how to become apart of the community again with the people who are in the community. Lets be apart of the SOLUTION together !!

It is very admirable that your focus is to work within the community to better it, stay encouraged. You are absolutely right homecomers are an equal part of the community and there needs to be a general understanding of that fact in order to move forward.
I think that some reasons why the community is reluctant or not willing to welcome the help of home comers may be fear and generalizations. It's an unfortunate situation and it needs to change, too often home comers are not looked at as individuals and are grouped together with the term itself or even worse after they have paid their debt to society, when they come home society tries to make them pay again indirectly by attaching their past mistake to them. unfortunately all homecomers are not changed and are not willing to help their community and this exascerbates the situation making it difficult for those who are trying to give back and do the right thing.

Separately, I think that when the community denies the help of homecomers who genuinely want to help their community, they are losing a valuable resource. Homecomers have unique experiences and insight that a lot of individuals who need guidance and direction need to see and hear. Homecomers can also reach these individuals by relating to them and there also may be a certain level of respect and understanding as well that others can't offer. Also, homecomers can be that one positive example that individuals need to see to be encouraged to do the right thing and make better choices. Homecomers need not be looked at as limited because of their past experience but should be looked at as having an experience that can be used to help someone else.

I know alot of homecomers who are doing the right things and we as homecomers need to do our part just as well as the people in the community.
