how important are resource's to people who are returning from prison?

I know personally how important resources can be for someone who is coming out of prison and that's why I put my resource handbooks together to help these men and women get their life back on track. I believe that knowing is half the battle and if most of these men and women knew this information ahead of time it can be very helpful, but it can also be helpful while they're in a halfway house/transitional house etc. I need to know from you ,do you think that resources are important for these men and women who are returning to the community?? please remember that your opinion's are important because it shows people that you care.

It is imperative that resources such as the handbook you created be made available to individuals returning home. Ideally the process should begin while the individual is still incarcerated to help them transition and prepare them as much as possible for the circumstances they may face when they get home. Also, to help introduce them to how much may have changed in society and the community since they were incarcerated. There are a number of variables involved that complicate the issue of recidivism and lack of resources is one of them. Resource materials in some ways can serve as a deterrent and discourage people from making undesirable decisions. The ultimate choice to make the right decision is up to the person them self but resources provide sources of support and positive alternatives which can greatly decrease the chances of someone making desperate /dangerous choices.

Camille, you are so right and with resources these men and women can do many things when they come home, but without out them alot of them fell hopeless. When i was putting the books together i was hoping that they could be a tool that can help people get their life back together and see some kind of light. We need to let these men and women know that we the community do care and it is things out here for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to put together Window of Opportunity. It is an excellent resource for returning citizens, their families, friends, neighbors and the community.

Thank you very much Mrs.G,
I really hope to get my handbooks in the hands of the DC. men and women who are out of the system(halfway house, transitional house etc.) and who are on their way out of the prison and i believe that my handbook can be of some help to them if they use it.
