Does Image Play a Good or Bad Role When it Comes to Eex-offenders?

I truly believe that image plays a very big role in how ex-offenders are being treated when they are released from prison. The people in the community fear ex-offenders most of the times because of what they hear and see and all those negative tags don't allow people to move past what they see and hear. A lot of us who are doing right and a lot of us who want to do right in the community and its not talked about like it should be. What can we do to try and mend the wounds as best as we can between the community and the people who are returning home? I understand that things won't be perfect, but we need to help change the way that some people in the community see all ex-offenders, because we are all not alike despite of what people may think.

The image that the media puts out there has a huge impact on the way people see ex-offenders. And all of the prison shows on tv that are riddled with violence and abhorrent behavior doesn’t help either. That is one of the biggest reasons that people are in fear because they don’t see any better image so they don’t know any better image and the root of fear itself is not knowing. That being said, it will take positive publicity to start to change the thinking process of most of society. If people see more of the positive change and influence that ex-offenders make in their lives and in others lives that would help reduce the overall fear. Also, ex-offenders are not looked at on an individual basis. People tend to generalize and clump individuals into groups. Everyone deserves to be seen for their individuality instead of just being labeled and judged.

Camille, you are on point with your comments and thats why i am trying to do what i can to help change the image of ex-offenders, because if we can change that image alittle bit things can start to change for ex-offenders in the community. people please know that its alot of ex-offenders out here who are doing the right things, but its not being talked about or shown enough.

Image plays a major role in our everyday lives. It does not make any difference if you are an exoffender or not. However, if you are an exoffender society has played into the media's hand. Exoffenders have payed their debt to society and should beable to return and live their lives. Socity must be willing to change and not get hung up on the past.
